A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MS. ESSIE MYRTIS EASTERLING AND EXTENDING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY UPON HER PASSING.

WHEREAS, Ms. Essie Myrtis Easterling, affectionately known as "Miss Myrt," departed this life on January 18, 1999, causing a great loss to her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Easterling, the third of nine children of Mrs. Angelene Easterling Smith, was born on January 23, 1950, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, at an early age, Ms. Easterling accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the True Light Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend W.D. Ridgeway; and

WHEREAS, throughout her life Ms. Easterling was faithfully involved in her church, in Sunday School, choirs and Junior Mission number two; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Easterling also was a member of the Electra Grand Chapter of the Order, the Eastern Star and the Queen Esther Chapter 65; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Easterling, a loving and devoted mother, is survived by three children, Angie, Gary and Nick; and her eight grandchildren, Brandon, Kristi, Toneeki, Jr., Jaime, Adrian, Gary, Justin and Tia; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and pay special tribute to such outstanding women as Ms. Essie Myrtis Easterling, a woman who touched the lives of all those around her:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of Ms. Essie Myrtis Easterling and extend our deepest sympathy to her family upon her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Ms. Essie Myrtis Easterling and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
